Popular rom-com author, Julie Olivia’s books offer a refreshing take on romance and serve as a great escape for the readers. While dark romances rummage into intense and often hectic relationships, Julie Olivia’s stories provide a contrast with their light-hearted tone, heartwarming themes, and fairytale endings. Booked4Books approached her with a set of questions and she happily responded. Here is the Q&A with Julie Olivia.
B4B: Do you have a favorite romcom trope to include in your novels?
Julie Olivia: I adore friends to lovers! Any type of long running inside joke is my favorite piece.
B4B: Who are some of your favorite authors in the romcom genre?
JO: RS Grey is a rom com queen and she’s the reason I gravitated toward the genre. Similarly, Sarah Adams writes absolutely hilarious books and every single one feels like a warm hug.
B4B: If one of your characters could come to life and spend a day with you, who would it be and what would you two do?
JO: Cassidy Davies from Out with the Tide! He’s so funny. We’d probably go for walks and eat too much food.
B4B: If your romcoms were turned into a TV series, what would be your dream theme song for the opening credits?
JO: The Honeywood series would be fun as a TV show! The theme would probably be something from Dolly Parton. It just fits the small-town cozy vibe.
B4B: If you were to write a crossover between two of your romcoms, which characters would meet and what adventure would they have?
JO: A lot of people meet in my rom coms! My lawyer Ian from In His Eyes was Lorelei’s lawyer in All Downhill with You. I love crossovers!
B4B: Do you have any quirky writing habits or rituals that you swear by?
JO: Once I’m close to my deadline, I must work outside the house. I’m shackled to coffee shops during that time!
B4B: If you could choose a celebrity to narrate the audiobook version of one of your books, who would you pick and why?
JO: Lee Pace for Emory in All Downhill With You. He’s exactly who I imagined in the role! But recently, Christian Leatherman narrated the ADWY audiobook and he did such a fantastic job that I’m not sure I could hear Emory any differently now!
B4B: If you could attend a book club discussion about one of your own books, what question would you most like to ask the members?
JO: That’s tough! I think I’d wanna know which of my characters are their favorite. I love hearing those answers because it’s so unique to each person!
B4B: Thank you so much, Julie. Thank you for taking giving us your valuable time.
JO: You are welcome.
